BOTSFORD, CT - All Newtown fire companies were alerted to a structure fire within their first due district on March 28th. Engine 551 arrived first on scene and reported fire showing from the rear and side of a garage attached to a residence by a breezeway.
Fire crews quickly deployed two attack lines along with a backup line to contain the fire. Through coordinated and efficient efforts, firefighters were able to hold the fire to the garage area, preventing it from extending into the main residence.
Thanks to the rapid response and teamwork of all companies on scene, the home remained habitable, allowing the homeowners to safely return. No injuries were reported to residents, pets, or firefighters.
Newtown Fire Marshals conducted an investigation and determined the likely cause of the fire to be a lithium-ion battery charging station.
