Ferrisburg, VT - On 30th March 2026 at approximately 3:42 PM, the Ferrisburgh Fire Department responded to a mutual aid request on Burroughs Farm Road in Ferrisburgh to assist Vergennes Fire with a large vegetation fire spanning multiple acres. Ferrisburgh crews deployed Engine 2, FAST, and a tanker to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters were transported by UTVs into wooded areas and open fields ahead of the advancing fire to initiate an aggressive initial attack. Crews utilized Indian packs—backpack water tanks equipped with hand pump hoses—along with hand tools to combat the flames under challenging conditions, including high winds, swampy terrain, and dense, tall brush.
As the situation developed, additional agencies were called in to provide manpower and support. Through a highly coordinated effort involving multiple fire departments, rescue teams, and drone units, the fire was successfully brought under control. Crews continue to monitor the area for hot spots and smoldering trees.
The fire affected approximately 100 acres. The response demonstrated strong inter-agency collaboration and dedication. Appreciation was extended to all departments involved, including Shelburne Communication Center, Shelburne Fire, City of Vergennes Fire, Vergennes Area Rescue Squad, Charlotte Fire and Rescue, Monkton Fire, New Haven Fire, Bridport Fire, Bristol Fire, and Middlebury Fire.
Special thanks were also given to McElwain Rentals for providing ATVs to assist personnel in navigating the fire scene.
