This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

On March 30th, firefighters from the City of Vergennes Fire Department responded to an out-of-control brush fire in the Ferrisburgh district. According to initial reports, the fire covered around one acre. Upon arrival, C1 confirmed the current brush fire and found an immediate exposure danger close.

VFD crews began approaching isolated regions where a fire was blazing through a mix of land, woods, and swamp, making suppression difficult. As conditions worsened and the fire spread, mutual aid was asked. The state drone team assessed that around 100 acres of land, as well as at least one outbuilding, had burned.

Vergennes Fire responded with 27 people and seven trucks. Multiple regional departments and specialized teams contributed to suppression and support operations. The fire has been confined, and personnel will continue to monitor the area overnight. Forecasted rain is expected to help with final extinguishment.
