Canteen 4 Assists Firefighters During Warwick Fire Response

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Providence, RI — March 2nd — In order to support firefighters fighting a working structure fire, Canteen 4 of the Special Signal Fire Association/Providence Canteen arrived at 175 Oak Tree Avenue in Warwick. When the canteen unit needed firefighter assistance, Warwick Fire Department companies were on the scene overseeing suppression and overhaul operations. As soon as they arrived, Canteen 4 set up a rehabilitation area where firefighters rotating out of the fireground could get water, hot beverages, and small refreshments.

Firefighter rehabilitation is a crucial component of incident management since working fires frequently necessitate prolonged operations involving many engine and ladder companies. The canteen unit was still operational. While command staff manages suppression and overhaul efforts at the scene, firefighters can safely return to duty with access to hydration and a short rest time.
