Dump Truck Fire Quickly Contained on Route 17W Near Mygatt Street Exit

Binghamton, NY - On 26th March 2026 at approximately 12:17 PM, the Broome County Office of Emergency Services dispatched the Binghamton Fire Department to reports of a dump truck fire on Route 17W near the Mygatt Street exit.


Upon arrival, Engine 4 encountered a fully involved dump truck with active fire throughout both the engine and cab compartments. The driver had safely exited the vehicle prior to the arrival of emergency crews and was not injured. Firefighters from Engine 4 promptly deployed a hose line and successfully extinguished the blaze.


Personnel from the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, Binghamton Police Department, and the New York State Department of Transportation assisted at the scene by managing traffic and ensuring the safety of both responders and motorists in the area.

The Binghamton Fire Department reminds all drivers to stay alert, reduce speed, and move over when approaching emergency scenes to help protect first responders working along roadways.
