EAST FARMINGDALE, NY - At approximately 3:15 P.M. on Friday, March 17th, the East Farmingdale Fire Company was alerted for a building fire at 85C Mahan Street. The first responding units were given the additional information that a truck exploded within the building, and a second call was reporting black smoke from the building.

Upon the arrival of the chiefs, a working fire was transmitted for multiple vehicles on fire within a mechanic bay. First Due Engine 1-5-1 put one line into operation upon arrival. An urgent message was transmitted over the radio by 1-8-30 advising that fire was through the roof as well as that the wall on the corner was starting to collapse. With Wyandanch Fire Company 1-10-5 positioned on the 2 side, they had 1-8-1 lay into them to set up a tower ladder operation to knock the fire safely. One patient was transported to a local burn center.

Mutual aid to the scene consisted of the Wyandanch Fire Company for a Truck to the scene (1-10-5), the North Babylon Fire Company for an Engine to the scene (1-8-1), the North Lindenhurst Fire Department for the initial Rapid Intervention Team (1-11-4), the West Babylon Fire Department for an ambulance and a second Rapid Intervention Team (1-9-4), the Wyandanch Wheatley Heights Ambulance Corp for rehab.

Units operated under the command of Chief of East Farmingdale Fire Company Scott Lewis (1-5-30). The cause of the fire is under investigation.
