On March 16th, at approximately 10:20 p.m., personnel of the Hawthorne Fire Department responded to a complaint of a tree down on vehicles with potential entrapment on the Saw Mill River Parkway northbound around mile marker 14.4.

Upon arrival, firemen discovered that a big tree had fallen over the road amid severe gusts, striking two automobiles. The falling tree struck one vehicle directly, while another vehicle collided with the remaining trunk and branches.

All occupants were able to depart the vehicles and were checked on the site by Hawthorne EMS, who reported no injuries.

The parkway was briefly closed so that crews could clear debris. Tow trucks were summoned to remove the damaged vehicles, and Department of Transportation staff arrived to assist with roadway cleanup.
