MERRICK, NY — March 14th — The Merrick Fire Department responded to a house fire on Wynsum Avenue early in the morning. After confirming that the fire was active, chief officers arrived within minutes of being dispatched and transmitted a working fire. Quickly locating the fire, members of the first arriving engine moved a handline into the house. While other firefighters examined the structure for extension, the engine crew extended one line and put out the main body of fire.
In order to help and offer backup coverage for any further calls in Merrick, mutual assistance departments from neighboring villages responded. At the time of the incident, the house was occupied, but everyone left safely. There were no reported injuries.
