East Herkimer Stops Roofline Fire

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

On April 21, the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department arrived within three minutes of being called to a reported structure fire on Schrader Hill Road.

Crews promptly started suppression measures after discovering flames along the rooftop close to the chimney area. By controlling the fire, firefighters stopped it from spreading farther into the house.

In order to prevent more water damage to the homeowner's possessions, crews stayed on the scene to look for hot spots and carry out salvage operations.

The Mohawk Valley Ambulance Corps, Mohawk Fire Department, Newport Fire Company No. 4, and Middleville Fire Department all offered assistance. The Town of Herkimer Codes Office, National Grid, and Herkimer County Emergency Services offered additional assistance.
