MALVERNE, NY — March 4th — On March 4, a house fire was reported on Ivy Street in West Hempstead, prompting the Malverne Fire Department to activate as a FAST Team. The Firefighter Assist and Search Team, a safety team tasked with supporting firemen working inside a structure during working fires, was dispatched by Tower Ladder 434.

When situations demanded more truck company assistance upon arrival, the crew switched to a working truck assignment to help the Lakeview Fire Department. Firefighters assisted with truck company tasks such as access, ventilation, and structural extension checks. In order to support overall incident operations and provide interior crews with prompt assistance, FAST teams are a regular safety assignment at fighting fires throughout Nassau County. Later, the units were put back into operation.
