Fatal House Explosion Under Investigation in Bloomfield, Connecticut

Bloomfield, CT - On 9th March 2026 at approximately 6:10 p.m., emergency crews from the Bloomfield Center Fire Department and Blue Hills Fire Department were dispatched to a reported house explosion on Banbury Lane in Bloomfield, Connecticut.


Upon arrival, Car 3 confirmed that an explosion had occurred and that one individual was believed to be trapped within the debris. Due to the severity of the incident, mutual aid was requested from several neighboring agencies, including the East Granby Volunteer Fire Department, Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company, and Windsor Volunteer Fire Department.


The Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit also responded to assist in determining the cause of the explosion. Emergency medical services were provided on standby by Bloomfield Volunteer Ambulance.


Firefighters worked diligently to bring the blaze under control and conduct search operations. The main body of the fire was extinguished by approximately 7:35 p.m. Additional support at the scene was provided by the Bloomfield Fire Auxiliary, the Town of Bloomfield Department of Public Works, the Bloomfield Police Department, Eversource, and Connecticut Natural Gas.


All fire units cleared the scene at approximately 4:00 a.m. the following morning. No firefighter injuries were reported. Tragically, one civilian fatality was confirmed as a result of the incident.


The explosion remains under active investigation by the Bloomfield Fire Marshal’s Office.
