HICKSVILLE, NY — March 8th — At the intersection of Fourth Street and South Broadway, next to Holy Family Church, the Hicksville Fire Department, located at 20 E Marie St., Hicksville, NY, responded to a car accident. As firefighters came to help at the location, dispatchers reported that extrication tools were sought. In order to access the occupants, crews secured the vehicles, managed potential dangers, and started operations.
While firefighters tried to keep the site safe for responders and nearby drivers, EMS professionals assessed individuals involved. Suburban fire units still frequently respond to car crashes that call for hydraulic rescue equipment. In order to safely extract trapped individuals and assist EMS teams during traffic situations, Hicksville firefighters receive frequent training on vehicle stability and extrication techniques.
