Man Jumps from Newburgh-Beacon Bridge; Multi-Agency Response Follows

NEWBURGH, NY – On the morning of March 15th at approximately 11:22 a.m., the Newburgh and Middlehope Fire Departments were dispatched for a report of a male subject on the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge acting suspiciously. Bridge authorities reported that the subject jumped into the Hudson River from the south span.


Town of Newburgh Police, New York State Police, City of Newburgh Police, and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Pier Loun Condominiums and set up a command post. Marine units from New Hamburg, Middle Hope, and Newburgh searched for the victim, while State Police Aviation searched the area from above.


The Sheriff’s Office deployed a drone, and the subject was located near the west shore. The New York State Police Underwater Recovery Team was notified, and the Monroe Fire Department Dive Team responded to the scene.


The subject was brought to shore and transferred to the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office. Orange County Deputy Fire Coordinator 36-13 and the Commissioner of Fire Services 36-1 were on scene.


The investigation is being conducted by the New York State Police.
