Faulty Pellet Stove Sparks Smoke Alarm in Haverhill, Wells River Provides Mutual Aid

Newbury, VT - On March 14, 2026, the Wells River Fire Department responded to a mutual aid request from the Town of Haverhill following reports of smoke in a building. Wells River’s K3 unit arrived on scene just seconds after Haverhill’s K1 unit, at which point command was transferred to the Haverhill Chief.

Upon investigation, crews determined that the smoke was caused by a faulty pellet stove. All assisting units, except for Haverhill, were subsequently canceled, while Wells River K3 remained on site to support Haverhill personnel.
