Port Gibson, NY — February 28th — A reported structure fire on Route 31 prompted a significant mutual-aid reaction from firefighters from the Port Gibson Volunteer Fire Department. Palmyra and Newark fire departments, as well as Port Gibson, were called in by the first box alarm. The first to arrive was Ontario County Car 1, which verified that the fire was operational. First Assistant Chief Scott Monagle asked for a second alarm based on the report.
While Newark firemen secured a hydrant to fuel the engine, Port Gibson's Engine 2231 was the first attack unit. Suppression operations were started by Newark, Palmyra, and Port Gibson interior teams. East Palmyra and Clifton Springs provided more labor. While teams attempted to contain the fire, Oaks Corners offered firefighter rehabilitation services, and Manchester Fire Department was designated as the FAST team.
