(OCALA, FL.) March 11, 2023 – On Saturday, March 11, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Ocala Fire Rescue's Engine 1, Rescue 1, Squad 7, and Battalion Chiefs 11 and 22 were dispatched to a vehicle accident with injuries.

Units arrived at an embankment on the south side of SW Tenth Street to find a golf cart on its side with one occupant entrapped underneath.

Engine 1, Rescue 1, and Squad 7 secured the vehicle and prepared to begin extrication while Marion County Fire Rescue's Medic 63 provided patient care.

Using rescue ropes with specialized knots for secure weight distribution, crews stabilized the golf cart. Engine 1 used a high-lift jack to lift the front of the golf cart to free the patient and cutters to remove the steering wheel and column to facilitate extrication.

Rescue 1 and MCFR Medic 63 prepared the patient for transfer to road level while Engine 1 set up the stokes basket to haul the patient up the embankment. With the help of a winch, Squad 7 hosted the stokes basket off the embankment and up the sidewalk.

Engine 1 and Rescue 1 moved the patient from the stokes basket to the stretcher. The patient was trauma alerted to the hospital.

No other injuries were reported.

The Ocala Police Department also responded.
