Box Truck Crash on Interstate 81 Prompts Hazmat Response

Broome, NY — February 24th — Firefighters responded to a box truck crash on Interstate 81 South after receiving reports that the vehicle had overturned into the median. While personnel were responding, dispatch advised that the vehicle was transporting dangerous goods that may be explosive.


Upon arrival, responders secured the area and assessed the circumstances. Following further examination, the situation was confirmed to be safe.


Several agencies responded to the incident, including the Broome County Sheriff's Office, Broome Volunteer Emergency Squad Inc., Broome County Office of Emergency Services, New York State Department of Transportation, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Spill Response Team.
