VAILS GATE, NY - Vails Gate FD responded to a report of heavy smoke coming from a vacant building at 112 Forge Hill Road on March 13th. Command arrived and requested a second-alarm sounded. Washingtonville FAST, Cornwall's Ladder and City of Newburgh's Engine were requested to the scene.
Firefighters found fire on the number three side of the roof area. The ladder truck was extended to the roof and firefighters used hand lines to knock the fire down. At the 20 minute status check, four lines were in operation tearing the roof apart and checking for extensions.
Deputy Orange County Fire Coordinator 36-13 was at the scene. Town of New Windsor Police blocked Forge Hill at State Route 9W/Butterhill during the incident. Town of New Windsor EMS was also at the scene, and the fire inspector was requested to the scene. The fire is currently under investigation.
