KIRYAS JOEL, NY - At 6:24 P.M. on Thursday, March 7th, the Washingtonville Fire Department was dispatched on a second-alarm in Kiryas Joel, for a fire in a multiple dwelling under construction. Squad 580 responded. Upon arrival, two members of the FAST placed portable ladders to the rear windows of the building, while the remaining members of the FAST stood-by in front of the building. Once the crew of Squad 580 (FAST) was relieved by Vails Gate F.D. FAST, the crew was reassigned to assist with opening up walls and ceilings on the second and third floors. The members of the Kiryas Joel F.D., with assistance from mutual aid fire departments, did a good job containing the fire to the original fire building, keeping the fire from extending into Exposure 4, an attached occupied multiple dwelling.
