BALLSTON, NY - The Ballston Lake Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Westside Drive after the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office Communications Division received a report of flames coming from a residence at 6:17 p.m. on March 6th.

At 6:24 p.m., Chief Mudge of the Burnt Hills Fire Department arrived and confirmed a working fire, triggering a second alarm and bringing additional personnel to the area. Ballston Lake's ETA 12-2, the department's newest apparatus equipped with a 1,800-gallon water tank, arrived at 6:32 p.m., and promptly deployed hose lines, allowing personnel to commence suppression operations until a hydrant supply could be secured. Firefighters launched an intensive external attack and were able to contain the fire before it spread to the adjoining garage.

Mutual help was provided at the location by the Round Lake Fire Department, Ballston Spa Fire Department, Jonesville Volunteer Fire Department, and Rexford Fire Department.

The East Glenville Volunteer Fire Department, Charlton Volunteer Fire Department, Harmony Corners Fire Department, Clifton Park Volunteer Fire Department, and Vischer Ferry Volunteer Fire Company all supplied coverage for the surrounding districts.

The Saratoga County Office of Emergency Management Fire Coordinators and Fire Investigators also assisted with the incident, as did National Grid for gas and electric disconnection, the American Red Cross for displaced residents, the Town of Ballston, D.E. Flynn Excavating and Trucking for teardown operations, and the Ballston Lake Emergency Squad for EMS standby.
