From house fire to garbage can fire in Shirley

Shirley NY. – On the afternoon of February 28th at about 12:10 PM the Brookhaven Fire Department and Shirley Ambulance Responded to a reported structure fire on Baywood Dr off Thornwood Dr. Chief of department Dan Dipinto ( 5-3-30) and Assistant Chiefs Giuseppe Loiacono ( 5-3-32) and Anthony Verni ( 5-3-31) all responded to the scene.
On arrival the chiefs found that a garbage can had went on fire in the home and had been extinguished. There was a smoke condition in the home so Assistant Chief Loiacono and Chief Dipinto requested incoming units to continue in and on arrival bring fans to the inside of the home and vent the structure. Engines 5-3-5, 5-3-8 and Rescue 3 all responded into the scene and crews quickly went to work venting. The incident was quickly brought under control. Shirley Ambulance was also on scene for medical support though no injuries were reported.
Brookhaven Fire Police closed the road for scene safety. All units were back in service in under 45 minutes.
