— February 21st — The Commack Fire Department arrived at 7:58 a.m. to assist the Brentwood Fire Department with a working residential structure fire. Commack teams were deployed as the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT), a specialized standby squad in charge of firefighter rescue missions.

A Rapid Intervention Team is always fully equipped and ready on the fireground to respond quickly if a firefighter becomes trapped, injured, or disoriented during interior operations. The team monitors fireground conditions and prepares equipment to facilitate a timely rescue if necessary.

Commack firemen remained on the scene for around an hour before returning to duty. Department officials stated that RIT assignments are an important safety component at working fires and show the good mutual aid cooperation between surrounding units.
