On February 23, at 9:13 a.m., the J.A. Barkley Hose Company No. 1 was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash involving a truck that collided with the department's firehouse on State Route 40. According to initial accounts, a tractor-trailer collided with a power pole and the front of the station, causing cables to fall across the roadway.

Responding workers discovered that a box delivery vehicle had hit the bucket of a town payloader clearing snow in front of the highway building, then a power pole, before slamming into the front of the firehouse. The truck occupants had minor injuries, while the payloader operator was not hurt.

The Fort Edward Fire Department was first dispatched but then canceled. Firefighters closed Route 40 between County Route 47 and McEachron Hill Road as they waited for National Grid to secure the damaged electrical lines.

The Argyle Emergency Squad, Washington County Sheriff's Office, Washington County Department of Public Safety, and TowAway LLC all gave assistance. The incident caused severe damage to the firehouse, rendering one bay door inoperable, but officials judged that the building could remain operational. Around 1:03 PM, fire department units returned to service once utility crews had secured the site.
