At 3:13 a.m. on February 18, the Border City Fire Department, along with the Geneva Fire Department, Waterloo Fire Department, and Oaks Corners Fire Department, responded to a reported structure fire on L.T. Rice Drive near Route 5&20. Initial reports suggested that a person was trapped inside the property.

Waterloo Deputy Chief 1662 came within minutes and identified a working fire, advising that all people had exited the structure. Chiefs and equipment from Border City and other departments came shortly after. Within around 15 minutes of transmission, command reported that the fire had been brought under control.

The fire destroyed around one-third of the structure and is thought to have begun near an exterior wall, while the reason is still being investigated. Finger Lakes Ambulance, Seneca County Emergency Management and Fire Investigation, Seneca County Code Enforcement, Seneca County Sheriff's Office, and Ontario County Emergency Management all contributed to the response.
