At 5:32pm on January 21, 2026, the New City Fire Department along with automatic structural mutual aid from the West Nyack and Hillcrest Fire Departments were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 14 Glenmere Road. While enroute it was reported that there was possible entrapment. Upon arrival, there was heavy fire through the roof of the ¾ corner with additional fire throughout. It was determined that an elderly woman was trapped in the house but unconfirmed if her son was also. After making several aggressive attempts, firefighters found the 85 year old woman in the rear family room. It was eventually determined that her son had left earlier that day. The fire was brought under control within an hour. New City was also assisted at the scene by the Thiells Fire Department. The fire is being investigated by the Clarkstown Police Department Fire Investigation Unit.
