Aerial Master Stream Used at Village Fire

At approximately 11:13 a.m. on February 22, the Homer Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 35 James Street in the Village of Homer.
Deputy Chief Stockwin arrived and reported a working fire on the second floor, taking leadership and launching an interior attack. Firefighters entered through the front door and found significant fire conditions. The department's aerial gear was deployed as an elevated master stream to extinguish the majority of the fire before firefighters penetrated interior lines to continue suppression.
The fire was deemed under control at around 12:40 p.m. TLC Ambulance brought one firefighter to a local hospital for examination after suffering a leg injury during operations.
Mutual aid assistance was provided by the City of Cortland Fire Department, Cortlandville Fire Department, Homer Police Department, and the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office. The cause remains under investigation by the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control.
