Binghamton Crews Handle Two Extrications in One Shift

BINGHAMTON, NY — February 24th —During their shift, Binghamton Fire Department Group B crews handled two car extrication events, one of which included a significant wreck on NYS Route 17 early in the morning.


Just after 6:00 a.m., firefighters responded to a two-car incident westbound near Exit 72 involving a vehicle carrying a trailer that was heavily damaged. A guardrail broke through the vehicle, trapping a passenger in the backseat. Engine 4 and Squad workers utilized hydraulic equipment to extract the patient, who was then transferred to a nearby hospital by Broome Ambulance. The driver was ejected but denied medical attention.


Earlier in the evening, personnel responded to a rollover incident involving entrapment at South Washington and Morris streets. Firefighters cut the windshield to free a trapped person, who was later transported by Superior.Ambulance.
