CHESHIRE, NY - The Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department responded late at night on February 27th to a reported vehicle fire on Onnalinda Drive, with automatic mutual aid from the Bristol Fire Department.
Chief Brown arrived first, reporting flames emanating from a vehicle parked approximately four-feet from a house. Engines 411 and 412 deployed an attack line to extinguish the vehicle fire, while a second line was established to defend a neighboring property. Because of the close proximity to the structure, the incident was elevated to a structure fire, resulting in aid from the Veterans Affairs Fire Department.
Bristol firefighters erected a water delivery pipe that spanned roughly 1,600-feet from County Road 16. Crews also searched the home for fire extensions, but found none. The hybrid vehicle fire required additional monitoring due to potential battery hazards. The fire was controlled in about 30 minutes and units returned to service around 2:30 a.m.
