DOUGLAS, GA — February 2nd — The Douglas County Fire/EMS Department honored the beginning of Burn Awareness Week by reminding citizens that the majority of burn and scald accidents occur in the kitchen, particularly among youngsters. Officials stated that simple safety precautions can help reduce hazards and prevent injuries. Firefighters advise residents to keep hot items out of reach, turn pot handles inward, and wear dry oven mitts when cooking. Wearing close-fitting sleeves and establishing a three-foot child-free zone around the stove are also suggested. These measures are consistent with national fire safety guidelines aimed at reducing preventable injuries.
