Monticello, GA — February 21st — Shortly after noon, Jasper County Fire Rescue from Georgia, Monticello, GA, USA, arrived at the scene of a reported brush fire on Jackson Lake Road close to Highway 11. When the crews arrived, an old storage barn was completely engaged. With an emphasis on preserving surrounding flora and halting its growth, firefighters labored to build a water supply and control the fire. It was concluded that the structure was a complete loss.

According to officials, a lightning strike—a frequent source of ignition in rural regions during storm activity—caused the fire. There were no reported injuries. Residents were advised by fire officials to report fires promptly and to remain vigilant when the weather changes. Safe response activities are supported and the risk of fire spread is decreased by routine open area monitoring and early warning.
