At 6:44 pm on Wednesday, 2/24/2021 the Yantic Fire Engine Company was dispatched to 11 Sunnyside East Road for smoke in the kitchen. Engine 31 arrived at 6:51 with smoke from the rear of a 2 story wood frame duplex. Engine 31 transmitted the working fire at 6:55 as fire was running the rear wall from the first into the second floor so dispatch started the Mohegan Tribal FAST. Car 239 established command and requested the second alarm which started Bozrah and East Great Plain as well as an Engine from Norwich. Engine 31 stretched a one and three quarter inch hose line to the rear where they quickly extinguished the fire. Engine 32 and 33’s crew established the water supply, stretched a backup line and began opening up the “Charlie” side wall on the first and second floor. Engine 52 assisted with checking for extension and helped clean up. The rest of the companies staged and were released shortly after. There were no injuries and the Norwich Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
