TINTON FALLS, NJ – On Saturday February 17, Tinton Falls Fire Company No. 1 was dispatched to the Garden State Parkway for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment. Fire Chief Christopher Park arrived at the scene, at mile marker 108.5 in the southbound outer lanes. Upon arrival Chief Park observed a sport utility vehicle that had rolled over and came to rest on its wheels. The SUV had major roof and hood damage. Emergency Medical personnel were attending to two victims in the vehicle.
Rescue 36-1-86 and Engine 36-1-77 arrived after battling the, near stand still traffic that the accident had caused. The rescue crews stabilized and secured the vehicle and quickly removed the front passenger door. EMS crew removed and packaged a female passenger. The accident caused the driver of the vehicle, a male, to come to rest between the front seats laying his upper body in the rear seats with his feet at the dashboard.
Tinton Falls Fire rescue crews utilized Holmatro hydraulic rescue cutters from the rescue apparatus as well as cutters worked off a portable hydraulic pump. The rescue crew was able to expeditiously cut the A and B posts, peel back the roof, remove the entire driver’s side B-post and cut the seat supports. EMS personnel then had plenty of room to package and remove the second victim.
State Troopers were on hand as well as Tinton Falls EMS, Lincroft First Aid and MONOC. Fire Chief Park said, “The responding Fire & EMS crews did an excellent job today, completing the extrication of both victims within 20 minutes of the arrival of the first fire units.”
