Avon, CT - On 23 February the Avon Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 8 Quinns Court. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy flames in a four-car garage. The home’s occupants had safely evacuated and were unharmed. Crews quickly worked to extinguish the fire, which had spread along the roofline of the residence.
Avon Volunteer Fire Department Chief and Town of Avon Fire Marshal/Emergency Manager Bruce Appell noted that extreme snow and wind during the morning blizzard made fire suppression especially challenging. He praised the swift efforts of his crews and expressed gratitude to neighboring departments from Farmington, Canton, Simsbury, UConn, Burlington, Plainville, and New Hartford, which assisted on scene and provided station coverage and emergency response support.
The fire was brought under control, with crews remaining on site to monitor for hot spots. One firefighter was transported to the hospital for evaluation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office.
