Norwalk, CT - On 31st January the Norwalk Fire Department responded to a reported chimney fire at 7:49 p.m. at a 1½-story, wood-frame residence on West Rocks Road.

The first-arriving engine company found active fire coming from the upper portion of an enclosed wooden chimney chase on the exterior of the home. Firefighters quickly deployed a handline to knock down the exterior flames while a second line was advanced inside the residence for fire attack and investigation.

Interior crews determined that the fire had extended into a wall cavity and a bedroom. The affected areas were quickly opened, and the fire was brought under control. Utilities to the home were secured as suppression efforts continued.

The main body of fire was extinguished within approximately 20 minutes. Fire companies remained on scene for about two hours to check for hidden fire extension, open additional walls as needed, and fully extinguish remaining hot spots. The incident was contained to a first-alarm response.

Four residents were displaced as a result of the fire. No injuries to occupants or firefighters were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office.
