Prescribed Burn Season Begins in Lee County

February 13th —Lee County Fire and EMS announced that the controlled burn season has begun across the county. Residents may notice smoke in various regions in the coming weeks as planned and allowed burns are carried out to minimize wildfire risk, control vegetation, and improve overall forest health.
According to officials, these burning have been permitted by the Georgia Forestry Commission and will take place under regulated settings, including specified weather and safety standards. Crews meticulously monitor each operation to ensure public safety and minimize affects on adjacent neighborhoods. Drivers were warned to use caution in regions where smoke could impede vision. Residents were encouraged to call 911 if they saw thick smoke or an uncontrolled fire.
