GILCHRIST COUNTY, FL — February — Gilchrist County officials extended the countywide fire ban, which was first issued on February 5th. Due to persistent dry weather and an elevated risk of wildfire, the prohibition was in effect until February 26th.

During this time, outside and open burning were strictly outlawed. Agricultural fire authorized by the Florida Forest Service was still permitted. Officials reminded people that violating the burn ban is a second-degree misdemeanor under County Ordinance 94.09 and Florida Statute Chapter 252. Penalties can range from 60 days in prison to a $500 fine.
