February 19, 2026 — The Eustis Fire Department responded to a snowmobile accident with injuries on trail ITS-89 in Eustis on Friday afternoon, January 16, just eight days after participating in a multiagency training exercise simulating a similar crash in Carrabassett Valley. Eustis Fire Department, Maine Warden Service Game Wardens, and EMS 61 were dispatched to the remote trail location, with five EFD members responding. One firefighter deployed directly from home by snowmobile with a radio and medical gear to quickly locate the patient and provide updates to incoming units, arriving approximately 17 minutes after the initial call. Four additional members responded to the station to retrieve specialized equipment necessary to safely extricate the injured individual to a staging ambulance. The patient was treated and packaged at the scene by EFD personnel before being transported by rescue toboggan to the EMS 61 staging area, where advanced life support care was initiated. The patient was subsequently transported to a hospital for further treatment. Officials noted that the recent hands-on training proved invaluable in ensuring a coordinated and efficient response to the real-world emergency.
