February 23, 2026 — The Warren Fire Department responded to a residence after elevated carbon monoxide levels were detected inside the home, officials reported. Upon arrival, crews identified the source of the dangerous buildup as a blocked exterior power vent that had become obstructed by snow. The obstruction prevented proper ventilation of exhaust gases, allowing carbon monoxide to accumulate indoors. Firefighters quickly mitigated the hazard and ensured the home was safe for occupants.

Department officials are urging residents to regularly check and clear all exterior vents, especially following heavy snowfall, to prevent similar incidents. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can be deadly if inhaled in high concentrations. Authorities emphasize the importance of functioning carbon monoxide detectors and remind the public never to ignore an alarm. Prompt action and properly maintained detection devices can save lives.
