Earlier on January 30, Pooler Fire-Rescue firefighters were summoned to the 1200 block of DJ's Way for a reported structure fire. Engine 601 arrived first and discovered a shed on fire, with flames spreading throughout the yard. Crews launched a quick attack and established command. Battalion 601 arrived shortly after and assumed command as additional units assisted with suppression and scene operations. Firefighters used two handlines to control the fire and protect adjacent exposures. The shed fire was brought under control, and personnel undertook an overhaul to ensure that no hidden fire remained. Officials determined the cause of the fire to be a burn barrel that ignited dry vegetation, which spread quickly due to dry conditions and light winds. No injuries were reported.
