Cape Coral Recognizes Civilian for Child Rescue

CAPE CORAL, FL — January 22nd — Fire Chief Mike Russell of the Cape Coral Fire Department recently awarded Richard Douglas "Doug" Brown an Award of Exemplary Action for his prompt response and life-saving efforts during a drowning emergency involving a 2.5-year-old child.

Brown's rapid efforts and immediate care were critical in rescuing the infant and improving the situation before first responders arrived. According to department officials, the incident emphasizes the necessity of early detection and response in water-related catastrophes. Following the commendation, the department reminded citizens of the ABCs of water safety. Officials recommend continual adult supervision, suitable pool barriers, early CPR, and swim instruction for young children.
