BENDERSVILLE, PA - At 9:56 p.m. on February 6th, Company 7 was dispatched to the 600 block of Torway Road for a reported house fire with possible entrapment. Engine 7-2 responded within minutes, with Chief 7 and E7-2 arriving to find a working fire in the basement of a one-story single-family home.
Upon arrival, occupants were confirmed to be out of the residence. Firefighters advanced an attack line to the basement to extinguish the fire while additional responding units conducted primary and secondary searches on all levels of the home, which were negative. The fire was successfully knocked down, and crews completed checks for extension to ensure the blaze had not spread beyond the point of origin.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation but is believed to be related to a space heater. Officials remind residents to exercise caution when using space heaters during periods of extreme cold.
