Three People Transported to Hospital from West Babylon MVA

WEST BABYLON, NY - At approximately 8:45 P.M. on February 19th, the North Babylon Fire Co. was alerted for a motor vehicle accident with two people reportedly trapped on Sunrise Highway in the eastbound lanes at Livingston Avenue.
While units were operating on the scene of a call, 1-8-31 was advised of the incident via Babylon Central Fire Alarm, and 1-8-31, 32 and 33 were all quickly on the way. Additional information received was that the vehicle was facing the wrong way and into the barrier.
On arrival of 1-8-31, he had a car overturned and hanging over the barrier being held up by a tree with confirmed entrapment. Upon his request, two extra heavy rescues were requested to the scene, one of which was coming from West Babylon (1-9-15), and the other being from Babylon Village (1-2-7).
Suffolk County ESU utilized chains to keep the vehicle from moving, while firefighters utilized the struts off of 1-8-6 to additionally stabilize the vehicle. The updated location was Eastbound Sunrise Highway, just east of Hubbards Path.
A total of two patients were trapped inside the pickup truck. An additional ambulance was requested to the scene from West Babylon (1-9-23). At 9:02 P.M., all occupants were extricated from the auto and the under control was transmitted at 9:04 P.M.
A total of three patients were transported to local area hospitals. Units operated under the command of First Assistant Chief of the North Babylon Fire Company, Peter Alt.
