Popular Citrus County resort destroyed by fire

Just before midnight on January 11, 2019 Citrus County Fire Rescue was dispatched for a commercial structure fire at the Sleepy Hollow Resort in Floral City. Roughly 25 patrons of the resort’s bar and restaurant were safety evacuated when the first arriving units from Floral City station arrived. A large commercial structure was found to be 75% involved and with flames burning thru the roof. Fire crews took up an external attack on the structure while a separate crew cooled a large propane tank that was right next to the building and was being threatened by the heat and flames. The fire was declared under control by 12:32 am. Crews from Floral City, Inverness Highlands, Citrus Springs, Connell Heights, Sugarmill Woods and Kensington stations responded and were involved with battling the blaze and overhaul into the early morning hours of Saturday. Citrus County Fire Rescue was assisted by the Florida State Fire Marshal’s office, who investigated the blaze and has ruled the fire suspicious in nature. The owner of the longtime and popular resort vows to rebuild.
