Around 10:20 pm on Thursday, 2/19/26 the Norwich Fire Department with Taftville Truck 25 were dispatched to 20 Greenwich Court for smoke in the house. While companies were responding, police arrived with smoke from the soffits.
Engine 4 arrived, found a moderate smoke condition on the first floor and transmitted the working fire. The crew opened the door to the basement and found a heavy smoke condition. Truck 1 forced the bulkhead in the rear and the initial hose line was stretched down into the basement. Engine 3 tied into a supply line to nurse Engine 4 but they contained the fire with tank water. Squad A stretched a line into the first floor but did not find any extension. Truck 25 performed the secondary search while fans were set up for ventilation.
This is a rural area without hydrants so Occum Engine 42 and tankers from East Great Plain, Laurel Hill, Bozrah, Preston and Salem were started as a precaution. American Ambulance stood by on scene and Mohegan Tribe provided the FAST. Battalion 1 had command and the Norwich Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
