Sunday February 19,2023 around 5:50am the Edwardsville structure fire box was dispatched to a reported abandon church on fire with multiple calls received. As units arrived heavy fire was blowing out of the windows with heavy black smoke in the air. The 3rd alarm box was dispatched within minutes for more water and manpower and the Luzerne County Tanker Task Force was also called in due to water issues. Crews started to make entry when they had to back out due to the floor being very weak and fire starting to weaken the roof. Crews moved to defensive attack and battled the fire for over 12 hours. The 1956 church that went abandon in 2001 was a complete loss after this fire. An private demolition company was called in to start tearing down parts of the building so aerial ladder trucks could better soak hotspots and put any remaining fire out. The firemarshall along with the Pennsylvania State Police were called in to investigate what they could of what was left after the fire. The church will be leveled within the next couple days.
