February 13, 2026 — The Beaver Falls Fire Department is recognizing Firefighter/Paramedic Kurt Ellefson in this week’s department spotlight.
Firefighter Ellefson joined the department in 1990 as a Junior Firefighter, serving alongside his father, Captain Bob Ellefson, and his brother, Kevin. He became a regular member in 1992 after turning 18 and has continued his service ever since.
While still in high school, Ellefson earned his EMT certification and began paramedic training, completing the program shortly thereafter. His early start in advanced medical training earned him the nickname “Doogie,” a reference to the television character Doogie Houser.
He was hired as a part-time firefighter in 2004 and was appointed to a full-time position in 2020. Prior to his full-time hiring, Ellefson held several supervisory roles within EMS agencies throughout the area.
Outside of his shift duties, he teaches CPR, EMR, EMT, and Paramedic courses and has assisted with fire instruction since becoming a Pennsylvania State Fire Instructor in 2001. He also enjoys spending time with friends when off duty.
