WARWICK, MA — February 2nd — A fire alarm with smoke was reported inside a house on Athol Road, prompting the Warwick, Massachusetts Fire Department, located at 1 Hastings Pond Road, to react. The call details prompted the dispatch of a first alarm assignment. Squad 1 responded, along with Chief X1, Deputy X2, Lieutenant X5, Engine 1, and Engine 2.
After investigating, firefighters discovered that the house was emitting carbon monoxide and smoke due to an oil furnace problem. To reestablish safe conditions, crews vented the building, metered the house, and turned off the unit. There were no reported injuries. Working carbon monoxide and smoke alarms, according to officials, helped avert a more serious disaster by providing early notice. Residents were urged to test alarms and repair heating systems on a regular basis, particularly in the winter.
