WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA — January 21st — In the Merrick area of town, at 149–151 New Bridge St., there was a reported structure fire that prompted the West Springfield Fire Department to react. Companies that arrived reported a lot of smoke and flames coming from the back of the building, which extended from porches on the top floors into an apartment.
Firefighters swiftly extinguished the main body of fire after launching an aggressive interior attack. To make sure the fire was completely out, crews then performed an overhaul and looked for extensions. There were no reported injuries. However, the American Red Cross is providing aid to six families who were relocated. Damage was limited, according to officials, because to early reporting, well-coordinated fireground operations, and robust response staffing. Before occupants are allowed to return, the building will be inspected and the cause of the incident is still being investigated.
