Apartment Fire in West Springfield Displaces Six Families

WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA - In the Merrick area of town, at 149–151 New Bridge St., there was a reported structure fire that prompted the West Springfield Fire Department to respond on January 21st. Companies that arrived reported a lot of smoke and flames coming from the back of the building, which extended from porches on the top floors into an apartment.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the main body of fire after launching an aggressive interior attack. To make sure the fire was completely out, crews then performed overhaul and looked for extensions. There were no reported injuries.
The American Red Cross is providing aid to six families who were relocated. The cause of the incident is still being investigated.
