HOPKINTON, NH - A wind-driven fire on February 14th destroyed a large four-bedroom farmhouse in Hopkinton.
The first-alarm was dispatched just after 2:00 P.M. for a reported garage fire with automatic mutual aid. The Concord fire alarm operators googled the home and advised Hopkinton Fire Chief Jeff Yale that the garage was attached to the house, and that smoke could be seen from Concord. Chief Yale soon arrived to find the garage fully involved and fire was rapidly spreading into the main house.
A second-alarm, followed by a third-alarm was transmitted as wind, freezing temperatures and water supply issues hampered firefighters. A woman and her two dogs were able to escape from the home and no injuries were reported.
After fighting the fire for two hours, only mounds of blackened rubble and large chimney were left standing. There is no cause for how the fire started and it is under investigation.
